AND FUTURE OF CHILDREN

he full-scale war came to Ukraine on February 24, 2022, with Russia attacked across the entire country. Many children were subjected to both the psychological and physical threats of war. From the onset of the war, Lana Ra initiated free two-hour online art therapy classes for children aged 4 to 14. These sessions ran daily for the first 150 days of the war and are currently conducted four times a week. As of January 1, 2024:
The impact of war has been profound on nearly every child. Art therapy and storytelling classes aim to provide a constructive outlet, redirecting children's focus towards the development of their creative talents.
The organization consistently gathers funds and creative materials for distribution to children engaged in free online drawing lessons, refugees, and those residing in de-occupied territories or near war zones. The initiative aims to support the artistic development and well-being of these children.
To date, the foundation has provided over 800 art sets (including sheets, paints, pencils, and felt-tip pens) to children in the Kharkiv region. Additionally, 131 sets have been distributed to participants of free online drawing lessons from various parts of Ukraine.
The educational art project for children, titled 'How They Saved Merezhyna', spanned four months and received support from the Ukrainian Cultural Fund. Across 41 online classes, 12 young artists collaboratively produced 120 illustrations for Lana Ra's fairy tale 'How the Country of Merezhina Was Saved'. The initiative culminated in October 2023 with an exhibition in Kyiv, showcasing drawings from the project participants and selected pieces from attendees of free online drawing lessons. In total, the children created 140 illustrations. Looking ahead to 2024, there are plans to organize an exhibition featuring the works of these young artists abroad.
The organization consistently extends humanitarian aid and organizes educational and creative master-classes for children residing in cities near war zones and de-occupied territories. Lana Ra, along with a dedicated team of volunteers, conducted over 30 meetings in the city of Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region, attracting the participation of more than 400 children. During these gatherings, humanitarian aid, in the form of creative drawing kits, was distributed.
Furthermore, the Children’s Foundation of Lana Ra actively collects Ukrainian-language children's books for village libraries in the Kharkiv region, aiming to promote a culture of reading among children.
